OpenSpace Is Now SOC 2 Compliant!

At OpenSpace, we take pride in our proactive approach to security and privacy, particularly given the volume of customer data entrusted to us. Indeed, we have captured more than 7B square feet of site imagery across 76 countries and six continents, and that number is growing exponentially. We’re therefore thrilled to share that OpenSpace has reached another important milestone and has earned SOC 2 Type 2 certification.

What is SOC 2 compliance?

Established by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), SOC 2 is a voluntary compliance standard for technology companies with cloud-based products that specifies how an organization should manage its customers’ data. Specifically, SOC 2 defines a rigorous set of criteria for managing customer data based on five “trust service principles”: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy.

These criteria are used by independent auditors to (a) evaluate how well a company manages its customer data and (b) ensure that a series of robust security controls are in place to protect that data. SOC 2 is essentially the gold standard when it comes to determining security compliance for companies that handle customer data.

The fact that OpenSpace is SOC 2 (Types 1 and 2) compliant means that we have successfully demonstrated—through a third-party audit examining data security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy—that OpenSpace has appropriate security and IT controls in place. Simply put, it has been independently verified that OpenSpace’s privacy and security policies accurately reflect and describe the controls we have implemented and that our customers can continue to trust that their data is safe with OpenSpace.

How will our SOC 2 certification impact OpenSpace moving forward?

These are exciting times for OpenSpace and our customers and partners! Earning our SOC 2 Type 2 certification represents a huge step forward in our ability to address new industries and serve customers in more countries, and we expect this certification to further propel our rapid growth. As part of our growth efforts, this certification opens the door to serving certain government agencies and more customers in the financial, healthcare, and technology industries. And while SOC 2 is primarily a US-based certification, it feeds into other controls and standards used around the world, which will enable OpenSpace to serve customers in more countries that require increased evidence of security controls as part of their own vendor due diligence processes.
